I am originally from Akron, Ohio. I attended the neighborhood school for Kindergarten and first grade at the church school in our church on Market St.
I was a second grade student at Mayfair Christian School (originally called Uniontown SDA School) the first year it opened. I attended there until I graduated from 8th grade.
I attended Mt. Vernon Academy for four years and then Columbia Union College for four years, where I earned a BS in Elementary Education. During my teaching career, I also earned an MA in Curriculum and Instruction from Andrews University.
I taught Grades 1-4 in a multi-grade church school classroom for over 20 years and became quite experienced at creating themed units and writing multi-level lesson plans.
Since then I’ve done a variety of things including working in business and school offices, substituting and teaching 4th grade in a public school setting, teaching VPK (Voluntary Pre-K) for 3 years, and most recently, teaching Kindergarten at my home church school, MCS.
My favorite hobby has always been music – playing piano, flute and guitar and singing harmony. I’ve always enjoyed playing in band and trying the various instruments. I was challenged early on to create my own flute parts and piano arrangements and really enjoy doing so. I also enjoy teaching piano students how to be creative with music.
I enjoy traveling, and have been to most of the continental USA and also to England, Scotland, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Ukraine, Russia, Canada, and Mexico.
Teaching Kindergarden is something I really enjoy, and am glad to be part of the MCS team.
